Model 63 Impala
Details I have a '63 Impala that I am restoring from the ground up. I have been working on it for two years now, as money and time permit. I received the car from my son as a Christmas presant in 2001. Frame, engine, suspension and transmission work is just about complete. When I get done, it will be a SS clone.
Engine The engine is bored .020 over with 11.1 pistons and a lsky 262 cam. I intend to put a couple 4bbl carbs on it in the near future.
Wheels In the process of putting a 605 pwr steering and disc brakes on the front.

Frame and all suspension parts were dipped and painted. Purchased a new 3.36:1 posi trac from US Gear in Chicago for $250.00. The original engine in this car was a 283 with a 3 speed. This car had been sitting in a field for the past three yrs or so when my son found it. Engine was purchased from local junk yard and was in a single axle dump truck at the time. I didn't know the difference between a truck engine and a car engine at that time. As it turned out, the engine was a 1964 340 HP automobile engine when all the numbers were checked out. The junk yard operator knew about the first part of this equation, but not about the second part. I made sure he found out about it though. But, I did buy the engine "right" ($650.00).

I retired from the Indiana State Police as Detective Sergeant after 36.5 yrs. in July of 2001. My main job right now is babysitting with my grandchildren, while my daughter-in-law goes to school to get her nursing degree. I had a 1963 Chev 409 SS way back when, and then sold it like a dummy. It was an exceptionally nice car. I just didn't know what I had.

I currently own two 63 Chevy's. One is an Impala with a 350/350 thats being fully restored after we finish the other 63. The 63 being worked on is an original Bel-Air 409 option thats been in storage for the last 20 years. It has a 4 speed muncie with 3:08 gears in the back. The interior covers are not original but we have a donor car with excellent original interior. We'll be putting a tomporary 350 in the 409 car just so we don't have to tow it anywhere anymore :-) The Bel-Air has no power options! The Impala has air, power brakes, and power steering thanks to a 605 box now. Hope to have more pictures posted soon!

Interior is nearing perfect original condition (seats require reupholstering) I bought this car from a guy who I bought a 65 from and I begged him to sell it to me for 4 years. I "really" enjoy driving it. I put about 50 miles a week on it. I'll repaint it next year with a mild pearl added to the top coat. I do require aluminium moulding that runs down the exterior but can't seem to find any for the Belair.

We've had the car for about 5 years and spent 3 restoring it. It was in pretty good shape when we found it here in town, with straight sheetmetal and little rust. We got it home and pulled out the trashed 350 and replaced it with a '64 327 with fuelie heads and a mild cam. The car runs like a top and has made the trip to Hot August Nights in Reno for the past 3 years.
